Abstract

The pursuit of academic excellence is a paramount concern for institutions of higher learning. ‎This ‎research examined the impact of demographic factors and admission pathways on academic ‎attainment ‎among 715 students in Economic Subsector Faculties at the University of Gezira, ‎Sudan, using bivariate ‎statistical analysis (t-tests and F-tests). The findings reveal that parental ‎education is a significant ‎predictor of academic performance, with students from more educated ‎families tend to perform better ‎academically. University entry mode also has a significant impact, ‎with students entering through ‎normal admission outperforming those entering through private ‎admission. No notable differences were ‎found based on gender, age, or marital status. The ‎research underscores the imperative for targeted ‎support services, academic counseling, and ‎mentorship programs for students from less educated ‎families and those entering through non-‎traditional routes. Reviewing the admissions policy to ensure ‎fairness and equity for all students ‎is also recommended. These findings have important implications ‎for the University of Gezira to ‎support the success of all students.‎
