Abstract

The pursuit of academic excellence is a paramount concern for institutions of higher education, ‎and ‎understanding the factors that influence student performance is crucial for achieving this ‎goal. This ‎research investigated the determinants of educational attainment among students in the ‎Economic ‎Subsector Faculties at the University of Gezira, Sudan. Using Ordinary Least Squares ‎‎(OLS) regression ‎analysis, the research examined the impact of university environment, prior ‎academic achievement, ‎health status, social environment, and family income level on Cumulative ‎Grade Point Average (CGPA). ‎The findings asserted that the regressors under consideration are ‎significant predictors of educational ‎attainment. The results also illustrated variations in the ‎significance of these factors across different ‎faculties, emphasizing the need for tailored ‎interventions. The research provides policy ‎recommendations to improve student outcomes and ‎promote academic excellence, including enhancing ‎university environment, financial aid ‎programs, targeted support, and promoting student health services. ‎The findings have important ‎implications for the University of Gezira and other higher education ‎institutions in Sudan, ‎highlighting the need for evidence-based interventions to support student success.‎
